if your cage is moist they might start breeding and its Not a good thing because then the baby ones will be every were! and in your house to, and the smelly thing is right my leopard gecko is cage smells but thats how it was when i got him and i keep it as clean as i can, so i would think you should put him in a different cage for feeding.
no they will get protein deficiance and eat your lizards toes [more common in geckos] and all it will take is one night without food for them to start and finish the job. even if you out in cricket food there is still that small posability so i personally would not take the risk
No, I would not I have also heard that crickets can bite and harm lizards.
it depends on the size of the crickets. if its the large crickets they will bite the reptile if the chameleon does not it them.
In my science class we have a spotted lizard and we have rub the crikets in some calcium and then we take tongs and place them near him just so he can see them but they run all over the cage anyway so I do not think it matters if you let the crickets rom free just as long as the lizard knows that there in there
no do not let them roam free in you chameleons tank for more than 15 mins the crickets will eventually get hungry and start eating at your chameleon causing it to get stressed from the bite wounds and possibly get sick and die.so yes keep them in a separate container and be sure to gutload them before feeding the crickets to your cham.
I think it is better to get tongs and put the cricket near him. Instead of haveing them run all over the place and die sometimes.
duh hes only gonna eat what he wants and its a reptile if he eats them all them dont feed him for another week. kno your pets.
If its a large cage, he should be ok. But generally it is best to keep them separate tub for many reasons. Keeping them separate will help u keep track how much he is eating, less waist (as they r bond to get lost & die), & a cleaner not so smelly cage.
If u have to keep them, or do not want to bother with another container, just make sure there is food & water (gel, crickets love to drown themselves in open water), & places to hide. If u have dirt on the bottom, u may even be lucky enough to have them breed in the cage. thats if u can stand the chirping!
One last thing, keep those crickets fed & watered if u keep them with ur reptiles, otherwise they may try to eat him (but this is more common with geckos).
I had some small lizards growing up & would buy them a dozen crickets at a time.i just put them all in & each lizard would eat what they wanted. The remaining crickets would be eaten over the week at leasure. I found that this did not upset anything. Though if u r in an area where there r crickets outside, do not be suprised if they start showing up inside ur house..lol, my grams was not too happy that my bought crickets were attacting the wild ones..do not know if this helps but it worked out fine for me;)
